The City received more than 3 inches of rain on Sunday, April 20 and more than 5 inches that weekend, but the usual flood prone areas of Shockoe Bottom and Battery Park did not report any flooding.River District News and NBC 12 both ran stories about the improvements the City has made and how the recent improvements are helping local businesses.
The City has moved aggressively to address these long neglected issues to protect property owners, residents, and businesses.
Both projects were completed ahead of schedule and under budget and the second phase of Shockoe repairs are underway and due to be completed in January, at which time the system will be able to handle a 50 year flood event (which is about 5-6 inches of rain in about two hours)!
