One shining example of incomplete reporting has misled not only the public, but has now confused even some City Council members.
A recent article detailing the costs of my Security Detail, started by Chief Monroe in 2005, did NOT tell you that the $1.2 million noted is a cumulative total since 2005. Interestingly, the article at no point explains that or offers a timeframe as had been noted in its own Freedom of Information Act request.
In fact, the City’s FOIA response provided to the paper breaks down that information clearly, and you can read the
FOIA response in its entirety here. You can
read the original article here.
During a recent City Council budget session, questions were raised as to how and why the budgeted amount for this past year alone could have ballooned to over $1.2 million, because some Council members referenced the article.
So, the article’s intent to confuse its readers succeeded, and it did not present
all the facts from the FOIA request that the paper itself had requested.
With this web site, we will clear up such confusion, since I doubt you will see a correction or a more detailed explanation in that newspaper.
