Mayor Wilder held a press conference today in which he cited the City Charter and City Council's failure to approve adopting a balanced budget before the required May 31 deadline.
City Council adopted two ordinances last night - June 9 - that provide more than $2 million for the FY 2009 Budget. The City Charter clearly states that any ordinance providing revenue to the budget, which must be balanced under City and State law, must be adopted no later than May 31.
As a result of Council's delayed action, the Mayor's original proposed budget automatically becomes law, according to the City Charter.
